When I had my EFI car I had similar problems. When I would mash it though, black smoke would roar like crazy. Also it would buck and surge. At idle it was richer than crazy. I installed a adj. fuel pressure regulator (from stock) and cleaned my throttle body and it fixed everything. I think it was the regulator. It was amazing the difference it made. I would get one if you have not already.
