I put a top loader in an 84 i used to have I used an 11" clutch, SFi bell and the t-5 driveshaft was the right lentgh i used the 70 torino shifter which is mid mounted on the tail shaft and had to make a handle to put the knob where i wanted it. I have heard if you use the mustang shifter (rear mounted on the tailshaft) it fits perfect. the cheapest way to do the swap though is use the alluminum tremec or 79-83 4 speed bellhousing your stock clutch and T-5 driveshaft with the aforementioned early mustang shifter.
