Go with a stroker. Example: My sons and I spent most of the past year building up a 306 for the oldest boy's 89 GT. We have about 6,000 in the engine and related pieces parts and it really runs nice. No track times but he smoked a new Vette this last time at the track before the 70 mm T'B and K&N filter. (I have pics of it)
We bought the green thing for my youngest's graduation. It has a 331 storker in it and everything else on the thing is stock except for an MSD 6AL, equal length BBK's and 3:73's. The green thing will rip the 306 a new one up to about 90 mph.
Torque is way up from the 306 and I know the F303 in the 306 has a lot to do with that but the difference in the way each one pulls is hard to believe, especially when you remember the 331 is mostly stock other than the extra volume.
If I do another small block Ford, it'll be a 331!

Oh, and the oldest boy is turning his 89 GT into a FFR cobra this next summer.
