I say go for it. Navy fly-boys get the most tail, nothing like landing on a postage stamp in the ocean. Of course, there was that whole tail-hook thing.
Honestly though, I know a USAF Major who is an MD, and did what you are thinking about. If you don't mind the haircut, it's not bad.
