you don't need that sensor on the top. From the inside it looks like it will determine when the tranny is in neutral, which you don't need. When I did my rebuild that harness was not plugged in and it was damaged so I just took it right out and plugged the hole.
I think you could tap into this switch if you wanted to install a remote starter. This way the car won't do a kangaroo hop across the parking lot if left in gear. The harness on the side is the reverse switch and you need it if you want reverse lights.
