If the AOD in your car is stock, then it isn't capable of handling a ton of hp, especially with higher miles. I myself have an AOD, I don't mind it all, considering my car is basically stock except for some minor bolt ons (gears, exhaust, etc.). However, I would prefer a 5spd just because they are funner to drive, but the AOD is fine for now. A lot of T-5 and Tremec stangers out there bad mouth the AOD and make it seem like its the worst thing ever to have on a mustang. This is not true. The AOD is highly over rated. My AOD is basically stock except for a shift kit, and a cooler, and it holds up great. I had to rebuild it once but that was because the linkedge in my throttle body snapped causing the tranny to start off in 3rd gear from a dead stop. This wore down the clutches terribly and caused the tranny to break not to long after I got the linkedge fixed. But since my rebuild, it has been great. I don't mind it at all. I would recommend adding a cooler and shift kit though. If you have the money, buy a manual valve body and a good converter, those really help. Also, if you have not done so yet, get some lower gears. A set of FMS 4.10's and a transgo shift kit will really get that thing moving.

Either way, best of luck
