500 - 700 miles per quart according to my calculations. That is pretty high consumption. Assuming you have no oil leaks, and your PCV screen is clean and new, and a new Motorcraft PCV valve.
You have either worn rings, or shot valve seals or even worn valve guides. You can run a compression test to help rule out ring wear. 2000 - 2300 RPM cruise is not too bad. Even with 2.73 gears, without overdrive that will only get you to about 60 mph or so, and remember overdrive was not out in force till the 80's
