Do not mean to stir things up, BUT, in 24 years in the auto repair business you DO NOT want to use Pennzoil. Not unless you are committed to changing the oil every 3,000 miles, and I mean 3,000 miles, not 1 tenth of a mile over. All of the advertizing in the world does not change the fact that Pennzoil will sludge up a engine at the first hint of anything! It is in fact made from a parrifin base, which everyone knows parrifin is a wax. I can look at the inside of any engine and tell you if it has had a steady dose of Pennzoil during its life. Unless you change it out RELIGOUSLY. In fact it would be best if you went to a 2,000 mile change intervaL, that way if you miss the oil change interval by 1 or 2 miles it won't hurt the engine. In my opinion I put Quaker State right up there with Pennzoil, change it often enough and you may not have problems, if you don't look out.
Now as far as using synthetics, I am for it all the way, even in a new engine, PROVIDED it is broken in (rings seated). With the modern rings that are currently available this is in as little as 30 minutes if done right.
I know everyone has an opinion about this, and mine is based of 20 plus years of building and repairing engines, not to say that someone may have had different results than I have, it is just that I personally have seen Pennzoil as having dependability and durability problem, and 98% of the other mechanics, technicians, engine builders and racers that I have personally talked to concer.
Anyway you can take the worst engine oil in the world (Pennzoil) and if you change it and the filter often enough you will not have any problems, you can also take the best engine oil in the world (put your favorite here) and if you do not change it often enough you will have problems.
