For power steering:
according to my 5.0L specifications book '79-'83.5 models had a variable ratio rack whereas later models had a constant ratio.
Also earlier models (pre- '83.5) offered a "high-effort"' 20:1 ratio rack, whereas later models had the 15:1 ratio rack.
All through production there was also two models for the same P/S racks, one made by Ford the other by TRW....i don't and can't find any stated differences between the different manufacturer's designs so i believe it's of the same design.
