Yeah, the freeways through L.A. and the valley get pretty bad. Most of them are 6 or more lanes in each direction, though, which makes them move, even if they are congested.
Next time you're in the T.O./Calabasas area, take the 101 west for about 30 minutes. When you hit the beach, you're in Ventura. Let me know ahead of time and I'll meet you for lunch down in the marina.  Take care, ~Chris
