Extrude Hone Question
I live in the Chicagoland area. Is there anywhere around here I can take something to get extrude honed? I know the actual company Extrude Hone is located in Irwin PA. but I would think they would sell their equipment to other companies around the country, maybe I'm wrong. I really don't want to mail something to Pennsylvania so I'm just looking for a place around here. If anyone knows anything about this that can help me out, please respond. Thanks.

I believe that there are only two places in the U.S. that can extrude hone an intake. One is in California, the other is the parent company in Penn. That sucks but they do awsome work. I had to get a Cobra upper done about 1-1/2 years ago and the only places were in Calf, and Penn. Took about 2 weeks time what with all the time consumed by shipping it back and forth. If you get something done just be sure to permanently mark the intake or whatever so as to sure to get the same manifold back. I had sent a BRAND NEW Cobra upper to them in Calif, and got back what looked like a used intake. The finnish on the outside of the manifold was not what I had sent off and the Cobra emblem was scratched up. They sent me a new emblem after getting in their face about it. Otherwise I was totally happy with the actual extrude honning finnish on the inside of the manifold. If I had engraved or marked the intake then there would have been no question about who's intake I got, as it was it was a "he said, she said" type of thing.

With S&H and Insurance both ways, about $325.00 A lot I know but in my opinion worth it. That was with UPS 3 day express both ways.

For what its worth, my brother in-law owns his own engineering company (he was living in Pittsburgh at the time, close to Irwin) and worked with extrude hone on their process. I asked him about it, and all he said was "It doesnt work as good as they say it does."
Interestingly enough, I only discovered this when I saw he was sporting an "extrude Hone" coffee cup, and then I asked him where he got it, and then he filled me in.... BTW, the coffee cup is now in my posession... I had considered getting my upper and lower done, but with the $500 cost, and his advice, I reconsidered very quickly. |
