Whether or not the drive shaft needs to be lengthened all depends on the car. On some you might have to, on others you might not. There is enough difference from car to car, that you can safely say there is no number written in stone. When I put my TKO in my 94 I had to have the shaft lengthened. If I remember right, you measure from the end of the tailhousing to the center of the u joint. You want between 2 1/2 and 3 inches here. Hope this helps.
