I've heard the MSD's used to have a problem with not dropping into the distributor hole all the way, and some people had to machine the housing a little bit to make it fit. That was a while ago though, and I'm sure MSD has fixed the problem by now.
What caused the 4 distributor failures in two months? That seems a little extreme.
