Platinum plugs will spark more reliably but with a cooler spark. You can improve performance by going with a wider than stock gap. Platinum plugs do have a copper core, BTW. I use Autolite 3924s with a HI-6S ignition and MSD 8.5mm Superconductor wires. Non-platinum are the way to go if you change your plugs often as any good performance nut would.
