Changing to 1.7 rockers is a poor mans way of changing the cam. While it will leave some of the stock cams features the same (lobe seperation), it will alter others (increased valve lift). your total valve lift is determined by adding the actual lift and multiplying it by the rocker ratio. If your stock cam has an actual lift of .278", then with the stock 1.6 rockers, your total cam lift becomes .444". With 1.7 rockers, it becomes .473". Looking at your mods, you need a cam improvement. You could try 1.7 rockers, and would notice an improvement, but I think you would be much wiser to install a new cam all together. I think your combo would be nicely complimented with an E303 cam. Then, if you decided later you wanted still more lift, you could add 1.7 rockers.

As far as your t-stat goes, I try to not recommend anything other than the stock 192 degree t-stat, but it depends on your running conditions. If you're not detonating, and the cars not experiencing any other problems, stay with the 192. If you feel that you do need to change it, don't go lower than a 180. Doing so will cause your ECM to overly richen the mixture, resulting in ring wash, diluted oil, and eventually a prematurely worn engine. Not to mention clogging up any cats you may have.

Take care
~Chris
