![]() There is an inertia switch in the rear of the car that cuts off fuel in the case of a collision. I don't know of any type of switch that gets activated when you run out of gas.
Try this. Turn your key on, but don't try to start the car. With your key in the "on" position, you should hear a whine come from the rear of the car. This is your fuel pump. It usually runs for a second or two (you should always let the pump finish running before you actually start the car). If you don't hear this whine, then your fuel pump is not coming on, meaning it could be fried. Try that our first to see if your pump is even working.
