Yeah man, plug gap can make a huge difference. I have a not so bright friend who installed plugs without gapping them, they turned out to be at about .034 instead of the usual .054 or so. And the car ran like a dawg. It bogged down and had hardly any power. Gapped the plugs, ran like a champ. Some people gap to a bit over the recommended gap to increase the spark voltage, this makes the engine run better to a certain point, but also reduces coil life as well as cap and rotor life.
