What he said. Plus piston rings seal better at lower crankcase pressure.

Also, only one tube is actually venting. Air flows from the intake tube (before throttle), into the crankcase, out of the pcv valve, then to the intake manifold. This is because all air entering the engine needs to be measured by the MAF. If it isn't, then it acts like a vacuum leak.
