Default Money to Spend

unfortunatly I totaled my '91 GT a couple weeks ago. Good news is I am going to be picking up another one with 80k on the clock.

My question is...I am going to have around $4k to spend to dump into this mustang. What suggestions do you guys have on upgrades? I am trying to figure out if i could do a nice h/c/i and blower combination for around this much? Or possibly just h/c/i. And i have no problem going with used heads either.

What suggestions on combo's can you guys make for around that much to put into the car itself?

I would spend about $1k on suspension and spend the rest on the drivetrain. Gears, Heads intake and cam package, short throw shifter, and a good exhaust system from the heads back. If you have any dough left over, put some good wheels on it.

You can do a nice H/C/I and some drivetrain upgrades for that much! Or you can do a supercharger instead of the h/c/i/ upgrade. Let me know what you got, and I might be able to hook you up!

Well I have plans already for some 17" Chrome Cobra R Rims, in which i already have tires for the rear, and the Steeda Tri-Ax, my previous stang had, so thats coming also. I have a 3g alternator, longtubes, shorty h-pipe, gears and a set of mint pony's coming up in a couple weeks. So with that being all set, i just need some mufflers for my complete exhaust.

So with that being covered as well, I figure I will have anywhere between $4k-$5k to put into it pretty much instantly.

Also, the car just needs a clutch, in which case i already have a centerforce pressure plate and disc sitting in my garage. It also just needs a tune-up, in which case i am hoping around $200 for that, if I don't run into any problems with it.

So I asume you are going to run a Z-box transmission. (world class T-5) or a tremic 3550?

You might want to consider the new Tremic 600 transmission. But that requires a new yoke and different spline clutch, besides the obvious difference in bell-housing.
Trans runs for $1600 includes the hurst short throw shifter.
yoke runs $60
Bell-housing $180-$450 depending on which one
plus a spec stage II,III clutch. $250-$380

I am actually considering using the stock t-5 tranny in it. If at all fails I will most likely just have it rebuilt stronger.

Ok, but the strongest you can make a t-5 trans for every day driving (not a race set-up) would be to convert your trans to a z-box (world class). That's rated at 330 foot pounds of torque. 4-5k in parts will put you way over that power level! But I guess don't worry about it till you get to that bridge.
Good Luck

IF it were me I would build a motor first ,331 347 and then go into the suspention. Right now I'm doing a lot of suspention
work on my car. Then after all that go for the power adders,
super chargers.

What kind of work would I be looking at if I was looking at making it a stroker? I was thinking of a decent h/c/i combo and then a paxton.

As for the suspension part, I don't want to make it a car that won't handle at all. Just something that will hook up when it needs to.

Well if you are looking at a h/c/i Combo I'd go with the tirck flow track heat kit that they have in summit. IT runs about 2,100. The stroker is all depending on what kind of kit you go for, Company I mean. They have a QA1 kit in Jegs comes with struts, coil over, caster camber plates, A arms, and K
member. Great for losing weight. And The daily drivability isn't any diferent. There are a few Things to ponder.

For a stroker motor....is there any machining that has to be done to the block before it's ready to install one of the stroker kits?

H/C/I+ stoker kit+ forced induction ='s a R-302 or A-4 block.
Thats $6,000+ just for a short block! (if you want it to last for any length of time)

A dart shortblock can be had for well under $6000.

I'd vote for a turbo and a good tune

Well i think if i was to go with a stroker i probably wouldn't be able to afford the blower. Ok, i can get a paxton novi 1k for about $1700 delivered which would leave me just around $2300 left over for the car. With that left over 2300 do you think i could put together a decent h/c/i combo? Still having a small amount left over for a little rear end suspension work?

uh, it's called putting a blower on a stock motor with some heads cam and intake. People put blowers on stock motors all the time.

You think he would be the first one to do it?? I would go off on you but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

BTW: I have a Novi 1k @ 10 psi on a stock motor. WTF was I thinking?

Look what ever you do....just have fun, it's your car and as a saftey factor always plan on running into problems. So have at least a "buffer room" for $$$$$$. If you spend all of it and then run into problems, you will have nothing to show for it but new parts.
My .02's

As goes for a complete shortblock for well under $6,000 how do you come up with that?
For someone who is doing all the assembly and machaning yourself you can do it for under 6,000. For the people who will have it done professionally will spend in the neighborhood of around $6,500.
These are all approx. You might find things a bit cheaper or more expensive when you shop. This is a rough estimate.

2,200 block
2,000 rotating assembly (4340 forging) billet is more$$
300 oil pan w/ pick up tube
250 balancing 28oz or 50oz ($600 for neutral)
40 oil pump
20 arp shaft
360 ATI or = SFI balancer
260 SFI flywheel
400-600 for any machining and special modifications
120 rings
100 bearings
120 ARP Fasterners for the short block
400-1,000 for assembly depending on who does the work.
$$$ options,etc.
This is not complete, but you get the idea.
I also assume that once you get a new race block (dart, A-4, R-302) you will not use anything from the stock motor....
