![]() You might want to save your $$$ and wait to buy a Mustang with a V8 in it already, whether it be a 5.0 or 4.6 is up to you and what kind of money you want to put into it. Experience shows that the venerable 5.0 is cheaper to make fast, but I'd go 4.6/5.4 if I could afford it. As the old saying goes, "how fast do you want to spend?" Don't let this deter you, though. It does cost moola to have a decently-fast car, but the rewards are well worth it. Personally -- and quite truthfully -- I couldn't put a price on my own '87 Notchback. Sure, it's sucking not being able to drive it this summer because I blew the transmission. However, having it and driving it the past four or five years has been awesome. Once I realized that there's always going to be someone out there faster than you, no matter what, it's still great having a V8-powered legend that'd spank most any car driving off a dealer's lot. ![]() Swarzkopf1: Check the timing belt, and the crank-to-cam timing marks. I had the exact same problem once upon a time...but I know what you mean about fixing it!
