I've had 3.55's in my daily driver 5.0 for close to 10 years now. I went from 1850 RPM @ 65 mph in fifth with the original 3.08 gears to 2200 RPM @ 65 in fifth with the 3.55's. I love 'em. A noticable gain in off-the-line and thru-the-gears grunt with no problems or strain on the engine.
I just wanted a little more pulling power with my near-stock 5.0. I don't do much drag racing anymore so I don't really need the 3.73's. If you want the maximum acceleration gains possible from a differential gear change (without going to straight racing gears) the 'conventional wisdom' says 3.73's are the best gear for that. The cost of the respective gears is the same so it's your call. Good luck.
