Both the 289 and 302 have a 4.00 inch bore. And as stated the blocks will interchange.

One difference...the 302 has a deeper bore. Do not read that as longer stroke. The depth on the cylinder wall is longer at the bottom. Why does this matter? For stroker motors there is more skirt support at BDC and thus less piston movement.

Ford measurments for 289 and 302's are 20 3/4 inches tall from pan to valve cover (measured with no intake) and a W is taller at 23 3/4. Width is 18 1/4 inches on the little motors and 21 inches on the W's. They will fit, watch for hood clearence. Back in the day we have put Clevelands in as well with the only problem being some hard to get to plugs.
