you realize that when you put a gear drive in it's going to be insanely loud right?
It's literally going to sound like you have a 400 hp blender running in front of your engine.
If you LIKE this sound, as alot of guys do, then by all means. I'd say yeah the only option you really have that I know about is taking a die grinder or dremel tool to your current cover, assuming you don't need very much to clear away
