Question Re: Money to burn rubber

A couple weeks ago I bought some interior dress up items including a Billet headlight knob, but I can't get the old one off. I checked my trusty Haynes manual and it said to stick a small screwdriver or the like into the slot on the knob and push in the tab. I tried this with know success. Can anybody give me a hand with this. Am I missing something?
