Bad bad idea, that Rack and pinion is not made for a long period of hard manual use. Especially your steering joints. The valves in the R&P will eventually fail or lock open, you'll be turning the steering wheel half a turn before the tires even move after too long. I've heard of steering joints breaking too, could be very dangerous. Unless of course there is something different about the 1982 R&P that I don't know about. maybe they were bullet proof that year. But good luck, either way, I think you'll free up some ponies.

I simply cut the lines on my power steering rack and plugged them off. Been running it like that for years. My car is a track only car if it was a daily driver I couldnt leave it like that.

I have seen people go with the electric water pump and experience very marginal gains. Not worth it for a tenth IMO.

The power steering pump doesnt rob any HP unless you are turning. I removed mine to shed some weight.
