It's hard to tell you without hearing it first hand. my first guess would be pinging. Try switching to a higher grade gas (like 92+ octane) and see if it quiets down. Also, if it does it more when it gets warm that's another sign that it's pinging.
Pinging is pre-ignition where there is a hot spot in the combustion chamber (on piston, on valve, carbon built up in bowl area) that ignites the air/fuel before the spark plug fires causing the piston to rock in it's bore causing a clacking noise. That's my guess, see when it does it more and see if any of this helps. Good luck,
