car cranks but does not fire
here it is..a couple of days ago i noticed that my headlights were dimming when I accelerate not when I am standing. Than I noticed that my gas gauge start loosing power. Pulled into the garage and disconnected the battery and recharged it for 12 hours. Than I checked all groundwires and had my MSD Coil plus Ignition Box checked. All in working order. Checked all wiring everything seems fine. Now the car cranks but does not fire. Also I checked the starter solenoid and it seems to be working working. Will go out today and buy a new one just in case. Any suggestions what am I facing here?

Re: car cranks but does not fire
Are we getting spark and fuel? Check for both, and I think you'll find your answer.

Re: car cranks but does not fire
Bypass the ignition and plug in the stock, you have to have fuel and spark, pull a plug and have a buddy watch it when you crank it over to see the spark (don't hold it in your hand). Can you hear the fuel pump come on when you turn the key in the on position? Was it raining or did the MSD box get wet?

Re: car cranks but does not fire
Got no spark from where, the spark plug? Back up to the coil wire, are you getting spark there?

No spark from the coil to the distributor.

Re: car cranks but does not fire
Did you check to see if your getting 12v at the ignition box? You may not be getting 12v exactly, but it should be real close to whatever you battery voltage is. I am willing to bet your ignition box is not grounded properly.

Re: car cranks but does not fire
will check that today. Ignition box is grounded directly to the battery terminal. haven't checked the voltage yet. Keep you all posted on the outcome.thx!!

Re: car cranks but does not fire
well, I finally figured it out..I had a two-fold problem:
1. the alternator , my POWERMASTER 140 AMP gave up after barely a year.. 2. the Duraspark into which the MSD Ignition was connected to burned out and after getting the right wiring information from the tech service at MSD I rewired and by-passed the Dura spark. Thanks to ya all for the advise... |
