Without getting into the physics of it, a lighter flywheel will allow you to launch at a higher RPM (than a heavier flywheel) and have similar (to the heavier flywheel at the lower rpm) wheelspin, SO YES, you want a lighter flywheel.. basically, spinning up a heavier disc with 300 lbs/feet of torque will spin your tires easier than spinning up a lighter disc would.. so, you get to launch at a higher rpm, and that gets ya better times, higher et's, etc.

For each pound of weight taken off of the flywheel, SUPPOSEDLY you gain 2.5 RWHP
(but, that's just what I've heard, I don't know, but that # seems a bit high)

Also, I got my flywheel lightened about 2.5 pounds, and I noticed faster revving, but no real loss of torque, if anything, it felt a tad bit stronger.. but that was only the first time I drove it, I got used to it right away..
