This is kinda foggy, but IIRC the 2.3 T-5 has the longer pilot shaft so that would bottom out in a 5.0 pilot bearing. I know the 2.3 bellhousing looks quite different than a 5.0 and different clutch cable setup. There are ID#'s on the trans which you can look up on the table I can't find right now. The numbers reference to the model year and trans type, IE 88 2.3 240 ft lbs capacity
