70's 302s are "smog" motors in their stock form. Although an improvement over a 4 or 6 cyl, it's not MUCH of an improvement. Severly lacking in the horsepower department.

But, if it was me, and a stroker is on the horizon, I'd put it in. Free is free, and this will give you a chance to get all the engine swap bugs worked out of the car before the stroker motor arrives.
