The 4-V carb will have 4 holes vs. 2 holes when you look down the carb.

You are going to have to get involved with a machine shop for the rebuild. Trust me and them that you will need help on this.

Going form the 289 to a 302 is easy. You will need a new crank. rods and pistons, but you needed that anyways, most probably. The 289 block will need some relief grinding at the bottom of the cylinders to accept the 302 crank. No big deal there.

Don't even consider the Boss components. They are collectors items and even if you can, you won't want to pay for them. You can beat all that anyway for much less $$$.

What you want to do is get with an honest machine shop, tell them what you are after, and then take their advice with you doing as much of the assembly as possible.

Most shops do that all the time. Getting 1-1.2 horse power/ cubic inch in a street engine is everyday work for a decent shop. More is going to cost a bunch of $$$.

Again, my advice is to find an honest and capable machine shop to help guide you through this. I'm not saying my car is anything special, but you can click on the link to user's rides to see what I did for a minimal $$$ street engine and then check out many other faster and more powerful cars (more $$$ too) such as stangflyer's "death machine".
