Default Re: Cast or Steel gear on an 88 GT?

For those people that don't think it really matters (if there are any), I had a brand new motor come in to the shop in a car with a distributor with a cast gear where it should have been steel. Warmed the car up and broke the motor in for about 20 minutes under light load then went to WOT pulls. By the third pull, it completely ate the cast gear up! Moral of the story....always check for the right gear! He didn't and it ended up costing him dearly.
