Having had a high 14 2.3 91 Ranger I would say gears but that is more than $120 if the 87 is mass air then go to a junk yard and get a mass air meter off a v-6 thunderbird put your hot wire in it and wala you have a much bigger meter. when I did mine I had to make a custom intake hose and get a conical k&n which clamps straight to the new meter if you route your new intake hose you can put the filter in the fender and get some cool fresh air at the same time. that will just about burn up $120 once you buy the meter, k&n and tubing.
