Sounds like a reasonable plan for more power but at some point, seriously consider a 'steeper' rear gearset.
About a $400. job (a pro should do the installation) but very rewarding in terms of off-the-line punch without touching the engine configuration or affecting drivability, other than the increased urge to floor it all the time!
