351 stroked to 408 + a Vortech S-trim@14# boost, good or bad?
Ok, here's the deal, I am thinking about starting another project car, and I have the budget for a 408 stroker, and I already have the Vortech. Keep in mind that as soon as this car gets done, it will see the road on a weekly, if not daily basis. Is this too much for the street? And which heads and cam should I go with? I plan on using a Fox based notch, with 3.55's or 3.27's. Subframes are a must, as is a T-56. The rest is kinda open for debate. I was thinking about TFS, Edelbrock, or AFR heads. Cam wise, I am lost. I have no clue which direction I want to go in. I do want to be in the 10-9 sec. range on the strip with DR's. I hope this is enough info to get some of you thinking. Thanks in advance!!

I would think this would be serious overkill for the street, but it'd sure as heck be fun For heads I'd personally go with Canfields or Edelbrock Victor Jr's, maybe with a mild port job to clean them up. Intake, TFS makes a nice 351 EFI setup that should work. As for a cam, contact someone like Anderson Ford, they do good research in cams (especially blower cams). Long tube headers (like 1 3/4") along with 3" exhaust, and a big fuel system would probably also be involved.

It is only too much for the street if it drives to harsh for you and/ or it is just plane dangerous. I'd go with AFR 185's for heads and a boxed upper since you will have a lot of cubes and a blower. Cam wise, put it all together then figure out what your driving habits with the new motor will be, how much you plan on running the 1320 w/ it, etc... And then have a cam custom ground for it. It sure sounds like a fun idea to me Light Em Up!!

Good or bad...is that even much of a question? Of course it's good (the correct term is hard @SS). As for the cam, more inches will mean the car will be much more tolerant of camming. Don't be afraid to run a big cam...it won't run bad on the street like big cams do in smaller engines.

I say go for it. I have a 408 with a Paxton Novi 2000 running about 15# of boost. I have a Tremec TKO and 3.73 gears. I would recommend using 3.27s or 3.55. 1st gear is almost useless on the street with the 3.73s. Sure is a lot of fun though.
