Try taking the bulbs out and cleaning the socket and bulb connections. Disconnect the battey. I know you said the emergency flashers still worked but as I remember those are bulbs have two separate leads and it could be one is still good and the other is not making contact. I think something like that happened to me once and that was the cure.
