You need a rebuild. I could say that it also could mean that your PCV valve isn't working or that the hose is stopped up, but with that many miles on it, you need a rebuild.

I've never ran one of the XE cams before (Extreme Energy), but I do think Comp Cams make an excellent choice for SB Fords, and yes the 268 probably has a nice little lope to it. If that bothers you, move down to the 260 cam it will idle a little bit better, plenty well enough for power brakes (I really doubt that the 268 would ever cause any brake problems though.)
