It is definately the flywheel...Ford changed the balance on the 302 in 1982 as Chris in NY has already pointed out. The easiest solution at this point (considering that you have to pull the trans, clutch, and flywheel anyway) would be to take the new flywheel to a machine shop and see if you can have it balanced to the old 28 oz spec.

Another option would be to have the old flywheel drilled to accept the new pressure plate...assuming that it is large enough to do so. Be careful with this one...make sure that the old flywheel will fit inside the new bellhousing before proceeding.

OOOO, you could always buy the rest of that 5.0 and put that engine in there....that way the flywheel you have would already match the balance of the new engine...heh heh, just a thought. Good luck. Doc.
