Yea, the 289 was available in 64. The Hi Po version (k code) is the only engine from 64 that carried over to 65. The other 289 available was the 4V D code 220hp 289. This engine was replaced by A code 225hp 289 in 65. As for the hood bevel, I have never heard of such a thing. There may be some difference in the way the lip is rolled or something.
