I agree with David; go for a stock rebuild. 600 cfm is plenty for your engine and modifications to the carb could make future carb tuning a nightmare with no real benefit.

The MSD coil is fine; I used one on a Chevy 350 with a points-equipped distributor and never had a problem but you may need to replace the points more often. I did.
