Sounds to me like the fan clutch is bad. Try spinning the fan, if it doesn't stop pretty soon after you let go its bad.

The stock mechanical setup will out cool any other setup. Alot of people, including myself, use electric fans for the increase in hp due to less rotational mass. If you decide to go with an electric fan don't skimp, its going to take a 3g alternator and an sn-95 or mark VIII style fan with a very high electric draw to keep a highly mod'd stang cool. I think I'm going to put my stock fan setup back on for the really hot months this summer leaving the electric for the cooler months.
