How old are you, you are pretty young aren't you? I am assuming you have a 289 right. If you do just drop some better heads on it when you get the money. I also saw something about a nitrous kit. Just race him and spray it. What are your cam specs? What size carb? Give us some details. BTW, the 67-68 Mustang is my favorite body style.
