Hmmm, I would say that could be a factor.  I know if I had just plopped down... What?... 70 Grand? in a car, the last thing I would want to see is LOSER slapped all across my forehead in the rear view mirror. By the way, I ran a guy in a blown (11 lb pulley) 347 the other night. I've got nothing but respect for that engine. We ran neck and neck and he had 2 passengers and a de-tuned motor.... no timing at all... Wow, I told him that car was capable of 11s.
