84_GT350: I have been asked the same question by many of my friends (particularly my female ones - no offense to the women on this board!). Many question why I want to watch guys driving in circles for three hours!

It's a lot of things really. Like JanesLX50, I really admire the strategy involved. Anymore you don't only have to be faster than the other cars, but your team has to be smarter. The driver and pit crew have to be in top physical condition, and the driver has to endure intense in-car temps at times. I challenge the statement that racers aren't "athletes" whenever it comes up.

Then there's also the scenarios where two drivers on opposing teams have to help each other out so that one can win the race. Not something you see in the "stick and ball" sports. And the different types of racing you see at different tracks (Daytona vs. Bristol vs. Watkins Glen).

I could go on and on, but the last thing I will tell you is if you've only seen racing on TV, get to the track. It will definitely make a fan out of you. Check it out.
