Joe, I've had similar problems and mine turned out to be the module on the distributer, just like mentioned above. Mine would cut out occasionally, and then be OK. Finally, one day it backfired really loud and then died. That's the only time my 92 left me stranded on the side of the road. It was very hard to diagnose, but once the problem was found, it was back up and running great.
