Has the ignition switch ever been replace on your vehicle? The symptoms you describe could be due to this. There was a recall (95S28) where it would be replaced free. If you are not sure if your vehicle's switch was replaced, any Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealer can look up your VIN to find out.
