Post 93 Cobra

Hey guys, I am looking at a vibrant red 93 Cobra with 6k miles on it. The guy wants 20k for it. Do you think it is a fair deal? The car has grey leather, MAC exhaust (headers to tailpipes), and 3.73 gears. I have a picture of it and it looks absolutely perfect. I really can't get a real good look at it because the guy is 9 hours away from me but he says that it hasn't been wrecked or painted or had any problems. So is it worth it? Actually, it doesn't matter how good or bad of a deal it is because I'm going to get it regardless...Just gonna have so sell the auto to afford it

Way the hell more than I'd pay for one.

You could get a 4.6DOHC Cobra and add a supercharger for less than that man.

Yah but it wouldn't be a cherry like the 93 hes looking at. I'd pay no more than 18k probably Stang Crazy. 20k seems a little steep. Blue book is quite a bit under 20k I believe. But for 20k you could probably get an extremely low mileage 4.6 dohc cobra, but I doubt you'd have enough cash to put a blower on it. But atleast it would have more balls than a 93. Its all in the preference. If you like the 93, pay all you want for it. Goodluck.

NADA wholesale is $10,600 plus 20% for low miles so that makes it $12,720 wholesale. Add about $3,000 for a retail number. On the other hand, it is a rare collectible so it is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. $17,000 would be more than fair.

Well, I can either buy it outright for 20k or buy it for 14k and take over his loan payments (241/mo). I think I might pay the 14k and then pay off the rest over a two year period.

I want the 93 instead of a 96-98 because I like the Fox-3 platform and I like the 5.0L. I also don't see many 93's on the road.

Here's my point of view.

Are you gonna be driving it? If you are, kiss that super cherry low mileage value bye-bye.

IMHO it's a car. A 1993 Mustang Cobra. Nice to have, no doubt, definately worth a couple thousand over a GT in my opinion, but $20k??? Screw that. If I had the car, I'd be driving it, like it was meant to be driven, not boxed up and put in a plastic bag. I put 20,000 miles a year on my cars. The Cobra would go from a 20k? super cherry car to something with 50,000 miles on it worth 12k in two years. It's a piece of history yeah, but certainly not worth 20k.

It's all based on your opinion and perogative, but the Cobra you are looking at is a collector's car. Is that what you plan on doing with it? If not, I'd suggest leave it to the collectors and keep looking, spend 8k less on one with a few more miles.

Good luck, either way man.

I agree with Unit. Its a nice car to have but hell for that money if you want a fox body, spend around 7k or so on a low mileage 87-93 LX or GT and then slap some cobra ground effects, maybe have it painted, then mod the hell out of it for the price difference. The end result? A Cobra replica that noone would know the difference about and one that would rip 99.999% of the cars out on the street up. Several ways to go man, think it through and make a good decision. I know some people want a Cobra because its just that, a Cobra. But hell, if theres such a price gap, make a Cobra for yourself and avoid those higher insurance rates. Also, theres a sense of pride that you get from building your car, its something you can't buy.

What I forgot to mention is that the car would be for show. If I just wanted a replica, I could keep my GT but that's not what I want. If I got it, it would be a garage queen and only driven to shows and maybe on the occasional nice sunday.

Ahhhh...

Now that DOES make a difference. With only 6k miles you will have one hell of a showcar. Something that is ultra rare.

Your call now.

I don't have 20k to play with, but if you are looking as an investment, you may come out okay.

I say buy it! I looked long and hard at '93 Cobras before I got my new truck (an '01 Sonoma for my daily driver). I just decided that I didn't wanna spend $15K plus and then have to end up moding it anyway (cuz I can't drive a manual by law and all Cobras are sticks). But in my opinion the '93 Cobra is one of (if not THE) ultimate Mustang (excluding tuner cars). It's kinda pricey, but it sounds totally kick @ss.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (horrid, blood curtling scream)

A SHOW CAR!!!!! DRIVE IT!!!!!

I would say that for 15 outright its worth it, but not much more than that. I'd also choose the 5.0 cobra over a 4.6 any day, especially if the other car you are looking at is a wussy engined, first gen 4.6 (96-98). But I won't comment if you want to pamper it.

I know my opinion doesn't really matter, I mean hell, it's your car if you get it, but why do that to a car that screams to be driven to it's limits? I have a 94, and I show it as much as I can. It serves many fuctions, daily driver, weekend warrior, and show queen. Eventually, when the motor goes, or I win the lotto, The motor will come out, and she will go into storage. I'll rebuild the motor at leisure, and be done with it.

Like everyone said, it's your call. If you get it, please, for the rest of us that don't have one, DRIVE IT.
