Without a doubt the Maxima. I owned a 96 SE with leather, moonroof, CD, etc. Great car for the money. IMO you get good quality, reliability, performance, luxury, and it's not any more expensive to maintain than a Pontiac, maybe less so. The GTP may have more horses but I believe it's heavier, doesn't handle as well, only offered in auto, resale blows, and is probably much tougher on brakes.
