The new "little" T-bird weighs 3700lbs. Not quite so little.

And yes, the 2003 Mustang is supposedly getting a more powerful engine, 4 wheel fully independant suspension al la Thunderbird, Lincoln LS, Jaguar X Type. Known internally as the DEW 98 platform.

As far as the engine, let's wait and see this time, guys. I remember reading stuff back in 1992 about the 4.6L SOHC LT-1 killer that was going to make 350hp stock, and a DOHC Cobra with a supercharger known as the King Cobra. If you want to see the engine for the King Cobra, last time I checked it was on display at Dearborn. Project Engine 199 x. We always here about this mega engine that's coming out, and when we see what Ford really saddled us with, we're usually disappointed.
