Personally I would pay a lot of money to have access to this site. But we would loose a lot of members and potential members if Dan were to charge access fees. There are numerous other sites out there that are free and do not have Ads. However the site admins of those Mustang sites must be rich to afford a high-bandwidth web sever.
I think Dan is doing a great job with this site, and in order to keep it up, he has to have sponsors.
